The crisp morning's air filled her lungs slowly. Birds chirped pleasantly in the trees. Children played their games all around the park, kicking balls or noisily running for reasons entirely their own. From down the street, the wonderfully delicious scent of freshly cooked bread wafted on the calm breeze. Behind it all, the cacophony of the surrounding city provided a backdrop to the wonderful, little slice of nature.
Olivia stood solitary in the sun and away from the more active residents of the park. Wearing a tightly fit yellow-orange saam and poised precariously on one foot, she slowly practiced her form. Every now and again, she would suddenly grow quicker in her motions, only to slow again at the same, sudden pace. Though she appeared to lose her balance quite often, the white-haired woman never toppled and always returned to her upright stance, in due time.
After returning to her neutral stance, back straightened and one foot raised level to her knee, she looked up at the bronze statue with her brown eyes. The truly larger-than-life image of the very man whom the city was named after was as awe-inspiring as ever. Even after withstanding the battering of time and the elements, his iconic pose of two fists thrust into the air in victory and the unmistakable mustache were impossible not to appreciate.
With a silent, pleasant grin, she shut her eyes again and returned to her practice.

The quiet tranquility of the park was interrupted moments later by the slowly growing sound of a voice going "Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit Noooo!". A large, bulky Saiyan male was hurtling straight down, grabbing desperately at something that was falling rapidly downwards.
Banzo had been flying over the city, doing another sweep of sorts. He was perhaps taking a bit of a break from said sweep, however. He had recently discovered the sheer level of inventiveness that Earth had devoted to brewing. Thus, he had swung by an independent brewery, and was currently trying a variety of interesting beverages. As he was drinking, he felt a sudden buzzing in his pocket. Ah, right, the phone he had gotten. AKA, the only method he had of contacting Terryn.
Reaching into his pocket to try and retrieve it, a sudden change in the aircurrents tugged at his fingers. Not much, but just enough to tear the phone out of his hand, sending it spinning downwards. Eyes wide, Banzo yelped, and tossed his currently open bottle into the air, pouring on the speed and shooting downwards to the park below. Eyes tracking the phone, he zigged and zagged, trying to get closer to it.
Finally, just before he got to the ground, he got close. Reaching out, he snagged the phone, just a few feet above the ground. Then, he realized he was face to face, about 3 feet apart and upside down, with a woman who appeared to be practicing some sort of kata. "Ah.. Sorry about tha'." Spinning, he sat cross-legged in the air and stuck out a hand as he looked up for a moment. Snagging the falling bottle out of it's descent, he gave it a swig, and saluted. "The name's Banzo. Sorry to disturb ya. Currently lookin' about for people who can fight. Ya have a bunch of Arcosians probably coming to yer planet real soon, y'know?"
Lily was thankful that her travels northward had been uneventful, as she arrived above the city. She was barely recovered from her previous excitement, bandages wrapped securely around both of her sore arms and fists, though her jacket covered most of it. Once again Dessel had sent her off on some errand that she was fairly certain was another excuse for her to 'stumble' upon some training. It was probably just paranoia talking though, all he needed was for her to pick up some ship parts for The Wayfinder at a shop that dealt with custom orders.
As if to spite her though, she spotted in the distance a streak as someone plummeted towards the ground. Without thinking, the young half-Saiyan darted after the body as she raced to catch up. She was too slow though as she watched the person plummet into a tree-covered park. Just as she feared the worse, she came into view of the odd statue and the previously falling person floating beside another.
"Are you ok?" she asked without really thinking, landing down nearby. "I mean, you went down pretty fast. Did something happen?"
Like always, something had come along to interrupt the park's morning tranquility. She usually referred to it as lunch, though what had landed practically in her lap certainly wasn't food.
Still in mid-pose, Olivia blinked several times as she... drank in who had just landed several feet away from her. To say he was large would've been an understatement, but enormous, rather! And, shirtless; the man was very much without clothes covering half of his extremely muscular body. The iconic tail of one particular species was the last thing she'd noticed as she returned to a neutral posture, then immediately stood as normal.
For a moment, the stunned woman had thought he was offering to shake her hand, only for an opened bottle to fall precisely into the outstretched palm. He then took two swigs without spilling a drop, and greeted her without missing a single beat. To say that she was impressed was another understatement, to be frank.
"Oh, think nothin' of it." Olivia finally managed to get some words out, and in a legible fashion, too! Again, her eyes swept up and down the impressive figure that was floating in front of her. However, before she could say much else, another saiyan had approached, and was already asking questions. Whatever expression she had been wearing before quickly turned sour, before she realized just what she was doing and corrected herself without a word.
"He dropped his beer, from the looks of it," she blurted out without thinking, an idle grin replacing her momentarily sour glare at the other woman. After a quick glance at the man's bottle, she added, "Great Ape's Ale? Isn't that a little... on the nose?"

As Banzo got his bearings, taking another sip, he took a look at the woman in front of him. She was fairly attractive, although he wasn't familiar with whatever garb she was wearing. Looked somewhat monastic. He extended his free hand after stowing his phone, grinning. However, he was interrupted. Immediately trying to pretend he hadn't been about to flirt with someone he literally dropped in on, he turned to look to the side.
From above descended a young girl, with purple hair and a very apparent tail. She seemed to be rather concerned about his descent. Turning over, Banzo waved one hand dismissively. "Ah, no worries lass. Ah'm just fine. I got to earth on a crashing spaceship, tha' dive there was nothing." He took another sip of his beer to punctuate this, although this one was a bit showier than necessary. Flicking the bottle towards his open mouth quickly, he sloshed a small amount of the glorious fermented grain through the air and landed it in his throat. It was almost like pumping a shotgun one-handed.
Taking a look at the recent arrival, he scratched his chin. "Huh. Ye must be a half-Saiyan, like m'self. Pretty sure that's the only way you'd get that purple mane there. Nice." He held up a hand for a high-five, grinning. "Although ya could stand to do a few more pushups, lass." She only seemed to have a power level of a couple hundred, while the person in front of him was about half of that. Huh. Interesting. Maybe they were like Terryn, not having really fought much? Still, should probably make sure they knew about what was going to happen.
From Olivia's comment, he remembered what he had been doing before. "Ah, well, technically that's true. I dropped it to go after my phone, though. I had to play poker with some crime boss for a good 3-4 hours for that thing, don't want to break it so soon y'know? It's my only way to get into contact with people here on Earth." Chuckling, he wiggled the bottle slightly, then twisted it around to look at the label again. Great Ape's Ale, huh. He had just gotten a mixed bag. That was funny. "Hah. I forgot which one I was drinking. Fair point there... Sorry, didn't get your name. Or yours." He turned, looking at Lily.
Surprisingly, despite the bottle of alcohol, and the clinking bag which suggested at least a few empties he had at his side, the man didn't particularly reek of booze, nor did he seem inebriated. It rather suggested someone who had more than a bit of experience with such beverages.
"Ah. And thank you?" she nodded, sort of confused. Since the strange man was obviously unharmed she considered just leaving to be on her way. But on the other hand she was curious about the self-proclaimed half-Saiyan man. He had a Saiyan tail, so she didn't doubt his claim, and it was not everyday she got to meet with someone like herself. He could of done without the push up comment though, just because she wasn't the same size as the muscular man did not mean she didn't work out. The girl he had nearly crashed into seemed fairly unassuming, besides her martial arts bearings. She seemed friendly enough though, definitely more approachable than the half-Saiyan man.
She gently probed outward with her Ki, trying to gauge the two individuals. The large man was incredibly strong, which surprised the young half-Saiyan. The girl seemed to pale in comparison, but on the same note, so did Lily herself. "Well I'm glad nobody was hurt or lost anything important. My name is Lily, by the way."
For a few seconds, the conversation, if it could be called such so soon, had turned to take place between the two saiyans. As they traded barbs about the woman's weight, or lack thereof, Olivia stole herself a proper glance at the newest arrival in her small corner of the park. The purple hair was eye-catching enough, though now that the man had brought it up, she had never seen that on a saiyan before. As far as she could remember, they'd all had black or very dark brown hair, the same as their tails. Beyond that, the fresh bandages covering her hands were the only particular things she could decide were out of place.
"Olivia," she followed after the other woman and gave her name. For a moment, she ran her hand through her short hair, and quite enjoyed the cool air on her scalp. By the look of things, it was going to be midday soon enough, so she supposed it was getting to about that time to stop her practice, anyways. Brushing the same hand to the back of her head, where it stayed, she addressed the very large man again.
Lily, huh? Didn't sound like a typical Saiyan name, so probably was raised by her non-Saiyan parent. That, or it was just an obscure one. Would explain the lower PL, at least. Was pretty unlikely a Saiyan parent would be satisfied with a level that low. Although maybe his point of view was just kind of skewed at the moment. Who knows. "Aye, all fine here."
Nodding to the other woman, now identified as Olivia, Banzo grinned. "Ah, pleasure to meet ya." He emptied the bottle, and after a moment of aiming, arced it into a nearby trash bin. Turning back, he dusted his hands. He was about to make a further comment, slightly more flirty in nature, but the presence of the girl and the mention of Arcosians halted him. Grimacing slightly, Banzo nodded. "I did say somethin' about Arcosians. This... probably won't be fun to hear."
He looked back and forth at the two, face turned slightly grim. "Not long ago, Planet Vegeta was invaded by the World Trade Fleet. Some people managed to flee, but as of now, the Saiyan Kingdom has fallen. Some of the Saiyans fled to Earth, hoping to find the Dragonballs, and well..." He sighed, running his hand through his hair. "We suspect that those planet-stealing fuckers are going to be coming here, next. We're looking for help, because frankly, we're not going to be able to stop a full force invasion alone."
He looked upwards, frowning. "We dunno when they're coming, but it seems certain they will, especially if they want to finish off the Saiyans. I know ye two might not be fighters, but you're above average in terms of strength, and to be blunt...." He stared at the two women with a worried mien, fingers clenched tightly. "The Arcosians are probably going to try to take Earth next. If you want to stay free...."
It was definitely a lot to take in for the young woman. She stood with a quiet contemplation as she listened to Banzo explain his situation, about the fall of the Saiyan home world and the possibility that Earth would be invaded next. Sure the young half-Saiyan had started to train to improve herself and learn to fight, but standing up against invading aliens was insane. She glanced down at the bandages on her right hand, reminded on how outclassed she was just by other fighters here on Earth. If the Arcosians did indeed invade, she would probably die long before she could do anything to stop them.
"You... do you think they could be stopped? If they took your planet... I'm sorry..." Lily was at a loss for words. Part of her wanted to help, wanted to avenge those of her heritage. But the other half wanted nothing more than to flee from all of it. If she could finish the Wayfinder and get it running, she could take her mother and Dessel and escape into space before the Arcosians attacked.
"Do you know when they might arrive? How long do we have to prepare?"

She wouldn't have guessed the conversation would take such a dark turn so quickly, not by asking the man about something he himself had brought up in the first place. Where the large saiyan had been rather jovial and good tempered before, now, he was serious and... Well, he was a little scary, too. The sudden change as a whole was startling, and only served to set the tone for the news he then shared with the two of them.
"Well, shit," Olivia muttered as she let it all sink in. It wasn't the most eloquent of responses, but who could blame her? The saiyans were the mightiest race in the galaxy, weren't they? Unrivaled warriors at the best of times, and literal monsters at the very worst. To hear how their home planet had been taken from them, and how the race itself was on the run from the ones who had done so... What hope did the Earth have against that kind of power?
Curiosity got the best of the woman, and as the other two continued to talk, she focused her inner energies outward. First, her gaze came to the other woman, where she found power she'd expected from a saiyan: Lily was stronger than herself by nearly half. However, when she had turned her senses to the large man named Banzo, she was overwhelmed immediately. To say that he was strong felt too impolite. He didn't just dwarf her in ability, but made her feel absolutely insignificant. Like an ameba trying to measure up to typhoon, the difference between them was so vast!
After staggering back a half-step from the man, Olivia caught herself and played it off like something had caught her eye elsewhere. However, she was sure that her instinctive fear had shown, even if briefly.
"I didn't think anyone- anythin' could be so strong." It took a few more seconds just for her to get over the shock of the man's latent power, but while her body was stunned, she had been thinking about the situation. "Shouldn't we tell someone about this? There've got to be stronger warriors on Earth, masters and such."

Lily asked a fairly important question. Could they be stopped? "... I think so, yeah. But Earth's gonna need to prepare. The galaxy's been... quiet, for a while now. The Saiyans calmed, there hasn't been any major fighting. Hell, last time anyone saw a Super Saiyan was before any of us were born. But..." He looked down at his hand, flexing it. It was strange. There was a trembling in his soul, an eager anticipation. "I think... something is coming. I can feel it in my bones, almost."
He frowned as he considered her question. "It depends. Paradoxically, the sooner they come, the better off we're likely to be. After a major attack like Vegeta, they'll need to consolidate their forces, deal with any opportunists, and so on. The thing is..." he sighed. "Accordin' to the history books, there was somethin' like this 200 years ago. The Saiyan Solar Empire invaded Earth, and it kicked off several years of chaos that ended with the galactic maps redrawing themselves. I get the feeling..." His eyes narrowed. "I get the feeling this is just the spark. The Taking of Vegeta, I mean." Looking at Lily and Olivia, he shook his head. "I think we're on the brink of another time like that. Even if we survive this... We'll need to be prepared for what's next."
Suddenly, the trembling seemed to alert him to something. Olivia had just taken a half-step back, seemingly scared for a moment. Her next stammered words explained that pretty well, though.
"Heh. Take it you can sense energy as well, then? Yer right, There's stronger warriors. But not many. In my time searching, I've located two humans with power levels up to snuff. A bounty hunter... and a young man who's never fought before in his life." He sighed, rubbing his face for a moment. "Then, aside from me, we got a royal guard, the Prince, an Ambassador, and a couple other soldiers in my group. The Royal Guard is about 100 times yer power level, Lily, and the prince not much higher than mine. We're working on controlling our Oozaru, though. That should help."
Looking at both of the women, Banzo frowned. "Right. All ah can say is this." He held out a hand, gesturing around them. "I cannae promise that we'll win. I can't promise we're going to be able to stop the Arcosians. But, I intend to fight, and try and stop those world-stealing bastards from going any further. If you want, you can try to run. However, there was a lot of blockades up, according to what the other Saiyans said. Or... you can try to fight." His eyes smoldered with resolve as he crossed his arms over his bare chest.
"You can run, you can depend on others.... or you can fight. You might not win, but at least you can go to the afterlife knowing when yer world, yer families and friends came under threat, you stood up and said no. I won't shame either of ye for wanting to take the first two options.... But if you want to take the third, I was a privateer and a trainer for plenty of recruits." He cracked his knuckles, grinning slightly. "It won't be fun. It'll hurt like hell, it might break ya, but I wager my tail that I can make you fighters who can stand up to the Arcosians. So... the choice is yours. Whatever you pick, I won't fault ye... but just know how little time ye might have left, either way."
All of it was too much and it had her yearning for one of Dessel's surprise sparring partners. But this wasn't just some meeting that the man had set up for her. This was her learning how unstable the universe could become and how badly she needed to get stronger. The risk of potential blockades and opposing ships to prevent escape chilled her to the bone. If she couldn't escape with her mom, would they both die? Could she maybe hold someone off long enough to let her mother get to safety? Based on what Banzo had said about her power, it was doubtful. If only her father was still alive, he would be strong enough...
"I'll do it," she declared quite suddenly. "I'll train with you, if you'll have me. If I'm going to di... I want to at least put up a fight." She glanced for a moment at her bandaged hands, flexing her fingers into fists. She needed training, and lots of it, if she wanted to be ready. Considering what else she could do, and who else she could speak to, taking up Banzo's generous offer was only going to improve her chances.
"Whatever training it is, no matter how hard, I'm not going to give up."
As the larger man exposited about the threat the Earth may very well face in the near future, Olivia struggled to comprehend it all. No, she just didn't want to understand. The planet had had such a tumultuous past, and now, its peace was going to be interrupted by a conflict that had nothing to do with it, none whatsoever. It was the Saiyans who were being hunted, yet their presence put them all in jeopardy. Maybe... Maybe if the Saiyans simply left, then the Arcosians would let them be?
No, she couldn't ask that of Banzo. Nobody on the entire damned planet had the right to ask that of anyone, let alone a whole species of people just trying to survive.
"Fuck!" Olivia suddenly screamed, as the reality of what she'd been told hit her. "Fuck! Fuck! Shit!" She continued in this way for a little while; just a few seconds, but much too long for young minds to be subjected to. When she was done, the woman looked between the two Saiyans sheepishly, almost ashamed of her outburst, though unsure what else she could've done. She took several deep breaths to compose herself, then looked the man in the eye with a subtle determination.
"Me, too! I... I want nothin' to do with whatever is happening between you, but there are people on this planet who can't defend themselves." She spoke, of course, of all the children back at the Turpentine Order's monastery. The ones she had watched grow, and had even helped to train. The friends she had made outside of the mastery, as well. "I don't want your war to be why they die."

The silence between the three was shattered suddenly as Lily spoke up firmly. It was clear that she was scared, but the fact she wanted to fight reflected well on her. "Good lass. At least for now, start with this." He reached into his pockets for a moment, and pulled out his wallet, along with a little plastic card. It had on it a symbol, with a T and C, and on the other side a list of exercises and trainings. " 's the reccomended daily training regime for the Tato Corps. Not much, but it should start increasing yer powerlevel. That's the Saiyan version, anyway. Ya should try and do this at least daily. We'll try ta do some sparring and stuff as well."
He smiled at her, genuinely, and gave her a thumbs up at her last words. "Good on ye. I know yer scared, but when it comes, ye don't want to feel powerless against it. You deserve at least the chance to fight."
As he spoke, he eyed Olivia. She seemed more than a little torn, and he could almost see the thoughts flickering across her face. She was just as scared as Lily, probably.
Suddenly, the air was nearly dyed blue by the sudden streak of cursing. Not somethin' he really expected from the white-haired monk, although he was impressed with the vehemence she put into that string of swears. When she finished, Banzo waved a hand slightly. "Yeah. Bout sums it up, doesn't it?" He chuckled ruefully, tail swinging slowly back and forth in the air as he watched her. He had to smile a little, though, when he saw her eyes as she stared back at him.
"Tha' is fair enough. It's why I'm trying to warn as many people as I can. The Arcosians took Vegeta, home of the Saiyans, and our species have been at odds for... hell, I got no idea now. But yeah, there's a lot of people on Earth who can't fight, and they'll be in danger." He sighed, looking far more tired for a moment. "If I thought leave'n would help, I'd try and lure 'em someplace else maybe. I'm not... hiding here, asking Earth to fight for us. It's nah even my war. I'm not from Vegeta, or the Saiyan Kingdom really."
He looked back and forth between them, hands interlocked. "Earth has... a mystique about it. The Unconquered World. A planet that's been invaded by countless warlords, dozens of threats, over centuries and perhaps millenia, going as far back as we have reliable records. Yet it's never been taken. It also holds one of the rarest treasures in the galaxy. The Dragon Balls. Tis why the Prince is here, trying to save his people. If it was just us, I'd be willing to leave. But... with Vegeta gone, Earth is the next jewel in the Arcosian's crown. One way or another, they'd try for it."
After a moment of silence, Banzo clapped his hands together sharply and looked back and forth between the two. "SO. I'm gonna do my best to make sure ye can damn well defend yer home against these bastards, yeah? Though first off, we need ta get you two stronger. You're already a cut above most people... now we need to make you STRONG." He paused for a moment. "Jes ta check, how much fighting experience do ye both got? Skill-wise. Cause I met a lad before who was pretty damn strong, but had zero experience. Tha's harder to teach."
She accepted the business card from Banzo and began to look it over. Her eyes darted across the back as she looked over the training regiment the man was suggesting she take on. It was a fairly robust exercise routine, but nothing the young half-Saiyan couldn't manage. She had pretty much dedicated herself to daily training anyways so adding this new training to her current routine would be simple. "Thank you," she said with a small nod, as her eyes continued going over the card while he spoke. Her focus was finally broken when the air was cut clean by some of Olivia's harsh swears. It was understandable though, Lily felt the same way about the prospective situation.
Still, despite how bad things seemed to loom on the horizon, meeting Banzo would at least prepare her for what would come. It was just up to Lily to push herself even further to overcome her current weakness.
"Honestly? Not a lot," she noted to the half-Saiyan man as she considered his question. "I mean, I've been exercising seriously for a year now. I've practiced sparring with my, uh, teacher for a while but not really fair fights there." She stopped for a moment as she recalled the recent fighting she had been involved in, set up by Dessel no less. "I did get a chance to spar with someone fairly strong recently. I was also outclassed by a martial artist lately too. A few other powerful folk too. Jeez, I've been busy this last week."
